IF YOU want to spot a dolphin then the Lizard is the place to do it.
Lizard Point and Penzance have been named by international whale conservation specialists Planet Whale as two of the top locations in the UK, specifically for viewing common, Risso's and bottlenose dolphins, along with the harbour porpoise and basking sharks.
Co-founder of WhaleFest and Planet Whale Dylan Walker, a former marine mammal scientist and renowned expert on whales and dolphins, said: "There are plenty of fantastic dolphin-spotting locations across the UK.
"Lizard Point and Penzance in Cornwall have often had confirmed sightings of several different species.
"Why travel thousands of miles abroad to see these beautiful creatures when you can find them on your doorstep?"
"Spotters in the area should look out for the unique all white body of the Risso's dolphin with its contrasting black fin, and the 'criss-cross' cream and yellow patterning on the flanks of the common dolphin.
"Increasing awareness of these amazing mammals in the UK is vital if we are to save them from the threats they still face across the globe today.
"This is why we are launching a new campaign to save the whales later this month."
