Liskeard police are urging people to keep their homes and vehicles secure following a spate of break-ins in and around the town.
A representative from the police said: "There has been an increase in break-ins in vehicles and houses over the past few weeks.
"We are asking people to be more vigilant and to make sure their properties and vehicles are secure."
Officers are warning about one man in particular who is believed to be tricking people to allow him into their homes.
The police representative said: "We have had reports of someone knocking on people's doors asking to retrieve a football and taking items when they are in the house."
"We want to make people aware of this and ask anyone with information to come forward."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
