Tavistock 1 Bodmin Town 2
Adam Carter came off the bench to score Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division leaders Bodmin's injury-time winner against a gallant Tavistock side at rain-drenched Langsford Park.
Victory means Bodmin need only seven more points from their remaining six games to retain the title.
Carter's glancing header from Olly Brokenshire's overhead kick pass took a deflection off Tavistock central defender Jamie Ahearne but the premier division's top scorer is claiming the goal.
He said: "My header was on target and was on its way in so I'm claiming it. Yes, their player got a touch to it, but if it was in the Premier League the dubious goals committee would give it to me."
Carter had replaced Luke Hodge in the 63rd minute with the game nicely poised at 1-1 after Tavistock's Carlton Farnham (54 minutes) had cancelled out a superb direct free kick from Shane Krac (26 minutes).
Bodmin dominated possession but their final ball was often poor and with only a one goal advantage after a one-way first half, they were vulnerable to an equaliser.
And it arrived nine minutes into the second half when the Bodmin back four were caught napping with Farnham, who appeared to be doing up the laces on his boots, suddenly springing to his feet to fire a low shot past Kevin Miller.
Bodmin were appealing for offside against Farnham, but referee S Rothwell from Plymouth, who had an excellent game, saw nothing wrong and awarded the goal.
There was controversy at the other end two minutes from time when Bodmin players claimed a header from Tom Chambers had bounced over the line after crashing against the underside of the bar, but again the referee waved play on.
There was still time for Brokenshire to try an audacious overhead kick pass into a crowded penalty area, and Carter's glancing header hit the head of Ahearne before flashing into the net.
