A POLICE negotiator successfully talked down a man threatening to jump from the viaduct near Trenance Gardens in Newquay today.
Nearby roads were closed while firefighters and paramedics remained on stand-by at the scene.
A spokesman said the man was in a "distressed state" and had been spotted by a member of the public at around 10.30am.
It is understood a specialist negotiator was scrambled to the scene in a police helicopter. He finally talked the man down at around 1.30pm.
The spokesman said: "These are people who are specially trained to deal with these sorts of situations. From a police point of view our goal is to bring this to a safe resolution and talk him down safely. Sometimes this can be done quickly but sometimes it takes a long time."
British Transport Police and Network Rail were notified. It is believed the man was local.
