A Culdrose sailor was watched by millions across the globe as he carried Margaret Thatcher's coffin at her funeral this morning.
Air engineering technician, Thomas Baker, 22, from 771 Squadron was selected to be part of the service at St Paul's Cathedral in London.
He was one of eight pall bearers representing the armed forces. They were among 2000 guests who paid tribute to Britain's first female Prime Minister, including the Queen.
At the end of the ceremony the body of Margaret Thatcher will be carried from St Paul's Cathedral to the hearse which travelled to Mortlake in South London where she was to be cremated.
The Queen and Prince Philip attended along with members of the Government and numerous global leaders. Security was tight around the Cathedral and the funeral route. It's thought around 4,000 police were on duty.
Dave Fielder from the Helston base said it was a massive honour: "Culdrose is at the heart of Cornwall and for a Fleet Arm representative to be selected from here is very rewarding and emphasises the importance the Royal Navy continues to place on Culdrose and Cornwall's maritime heritage.
"Culdrose has a proud naval history stretching back to World War Two. Personnel from here have been involved in many ceremonial events in that time."
