Heroic firefighters from Torpoint rescued two motorists trapped in a van in rising water.
The vehicle became stranded in the river while crossing an estuary ford.
The two occupants were unwilling to leave the van, fearing the rising water was too fast flowing and would wash them away.
Six firefighters from Torpoint attended the incident at Gooseford Lane, St John at 4.20pm this afternoon.
Fire Brigade spokesman Jenna Gendall said: "Heroically, two firefighters from Torpoint donned dry suits and buoyancy aids and entered the rising water.
"The firefighters accessed the vehicle and reassured the occupants.
"After securing a tow line to the van, a tractor from a local farm helped tow the transit from the ford and the rising tide."
Both people in the vehicle were rescued unharmed.
