A conference is to be held in Cornwall later this year to mark the centenary of the Cornish Institute of Engineers.
CIE was founded at Camborne School of Mines in 1913 by Cornish mine managers and engineers.
The anniversary will be marked at Heartlands, at Pool on October 11.
Dr Jonathan Bennett, from Camborne School of Mines, said: "In acknowledgement of the close relationship of the institute with the mining industry throughout its century of existence, the theme will be 'Mining – A Knowledge Cluster in Cornwall' and the speakers will be drawn from the many small, knowledge-based mining-related companies operating in the county today.
"This is a sector that may not have high visibility amongst the general public but creates high quality employment and brings in earnings to Cornwall from around the world."
