Bodmin Town 3 Brislington 2
Bodmin are through to the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase - but only just after Western League premier division leaders Brislington staged a storming second half fightback at Priory Park on Saturday.
Darren Gilbert's Peninsula League champions raced into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to two goals from midfield maestro Olly Brokenshire and one from striker Adam Carter, but the tie was far from over.
Eight minutes after the break Brislington reduced the arrears with a superb strike by Frank Gingell from 20 yards and the visitors were rewarded for a period of sustained pressure when striker Adam Mardy fired home a stunning second goal nine minutes from time.
The Bristol side clearly fancied their chances of forcing the tie into extra time, at the very least, and they should have forced the extra half-hour when Luke Meacham found himself unmarked ten yards from goal but screwed his shot inches wide.
Meacham held his head in his hands while Bodmin breathed again and the referee's final whistle was greeted by sighs of relief all round from the home players and supporters.
Elsewhere in the Vase, Saltash United went down 1-0 at home to Western League side Buckland Athletic, who had a 62nd minute Dean Stephens penalty to thank for their passage into the next round.
St Blazey bounced back from their humiliating 6-1 league defeat at Camelford by beating Barnstaple Town 2-1 in their Vase clash at Blaise Park, while St Austell were 4-3 winners over Bovey Tracey at Poltair Park.
In the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, Newquay's improved results continued in the premier division with a 3-1 win over Liverton United at Mount Wise.
In division one west, leaders Godolphin Atlantic made it ten wins out of ten by beating Dobwalls 3-1 at Lantoom Park, while second-placed Helston smashed seven past Mousehole.
And Wadebridge maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 12-0 win at rock bottom Foxhole, the Bridgers' seventh successive league win. Dan Jennings, who scored four last week, helped himself to a hat-trick against the Foxes, who have now conceded 78 goals in their opening 12 league games. Full results:
