A WEST Cornwall author is set to open this year's Cornwall Pride festival.
Patrick Gale will launch the colourful event, which is due to take place in Truro on Saturday August 24 with the theme diamonds, diamante and divas.
Celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community in Cornwall, everyone is invited to take part no matter what their gender, sexuality, race or culture.
The Sennen novelist, whose work includes The Whole Day Through, Notes from an Exhibition and A Perfectly Good Man, takes much of his inspiration from the Cornish landscape. He is also currently penning a gay drama series for BBC2 and a new gay-themed book.
Mr Gale was joined in a civil partnership with partner Aidan Hicks the day after the ceremony was made legal in 2005.
After the opening ceremony of Cornwall Pride, the parade will set off from Lemon Quay and make its way through the centre of Truro to Victoria Park for a free family friendly picnic in the park complete with music, entertainment and stalls.
The Pride Party, with licensed bar and entertainment, will take place in the marquee at Lemon Quay.
