THE Hayle town flag is flying at half-mast today following the death of one of the most well known members of the community.
Councillor Richard Horwell, known as Dick, passed away at his home in the town this morning.
The Hayle man was a well-known member of the local community and council, involving himself in much of town life.
"This is really sad, not just for the town council but for the whole of Hayle," said mayor Jayne Ninnes.
She added that CllrHorwell set up the local tennis club, was involved with Hayle in Bloom, the raft race, Christmas lights and carnival.
"He was Mr Carnival and such a character," she said.
"The town flag by Copperhouse Pool is flying at half-mast.
"He was the heart of the community in Hayle and this is a huge loss."
CllrHorwell retired from Hayle Town Council before last week's local elections.
