CORNWALL's largest independent care provider is looking for land in Truro to build a new care home for older people. Cornwall Care hopes to replace its two existing facilities in the city, Mountford and Redannick, with one larger and modern purpose built facility. The charity, which has 18 care homes in the county, said replacing existing homes in Truro but also in St Ives, Wadebridge, St Austell and Camborne was a priority. Chief executive Douglas Webb, said: "The new home in Truro would provide bigger en-suite bedrooms and more social space. "We would have about 70 bedrooms and a minimum of 30 extra care apartments in the grounds. "The staff at our existing homes are recognised for doing great work in their communities so it's not about that but about the condition of the buildings. "It is clear that we have got an ageing population and modern facilities are going to be required and we are excited at being at the forefront of developing the future for Cornwall's older people." Mr Webb added that the charity hoped to see a new home build and up and running in Truro within the next two years. Now local people are being invited to help Cornwall Care with its search for land. Head of property for Cornwall Care, William John, explained: "Our current stock of homes has served the people of Cornwall well but we want to ensure we can meet rising demand for our services in the coming years." Potential land submissions for consideration should be filed by noon on Monday June 10.
