Despite suffering from a painful and sometimes debilitating condition 48-year-old Nikki White is determined not to let it stand in her way.
The Goldsithney hair stylist and fitness trainer loves to keep active and is planning to build on her success of completing the London Marathon last year with a new challenge.
Nikki will power walk 26.2 miles this Saturday alongside her partner, 44-year-old Tom Grey, to raise funds for breast cancer care and research in the Moonwalk Marathon.
She said: "It is a walk where all the women are in their bras. 17,000 people are doing it and yes Tom is wearing a bra."
Last year, the couple took part in the London Marathon for Arthritis Research – another cause very close to Nikki's heart.
Nikki first got osteoarthritis when in her 30s, after suffering problems with her thyroid and then developed rheumatoid arthritis aged 40.pair raised £4,291 last year and are hoping to raise a similar amount this year.
She said that they chose the Moonwalk this year because many of their good friends and family have or have had breast cancer – some who are currently undergoing treatment and some who have unfortunately lost the fight.
Nikki said powerwalking is a particular challenge and that she finds running easier but she is looking forward to this weekend's event, which will start from Battersea Power Station.
Tom and Nikki will complete the event dressed up as aliens and wearing riveted bras.
She said: "Obviously my arthritis is still there. It is never going to go away but I am focussing on my next challenge.
"Anybody who can get out and just walk, it is going to be good for them."
Nikki and Tom do a lot of their training with their three dogs, Remy, Archie and Balam Junior, including regular runs to Penzance.
