A Redruth man is lucky to be alive after he fell asleep while cooking.
The fire broke out in Pond Lane, at 9.45am this morning.
The man was woken by a smoke alarm.
A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The occupier has had a very lucky escape.
"He had fallen asleep and was woken up by his smoke alarm; he then placed a damp cloth over the pan and took it outside."
One fire crew from Redruth was called to the blaze.
An ambulance was also at the scene.
Paramedics treated the man for smoke inhalation.
