Bodmin Town 2 Elburton Villa 0
Bodmin Town secured their second successive treble of trophies on Sunday afternoon with victory over Elburton in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Throgmorton Cup final at Blaise Park, St Blazey.
Darren Gilbert's side had already clinched the league championship and the Cornwall Senior Cup – and they were worthy winners of the league cup final.
Steve Colwell fired them ahead in the 33rd minute with a wonderful scissors kick volley from 18 yards and Sam Matthews gave Bodmin a perfect start to the second half with a low strike in the 47th minute after good work by Adam Carter.
Colwell and Matthews also had a golden chance each to kill the game off before the hour, but they ballooned their shots over the bar from close range.
This was one of Bodmin's best performances for many weeks and they should have won by a bigger margin.
Because they didn't get that third goal, it encouraged Elburton to make a late revival in a bid to reduce the arrears but the closest they came was a Sam Stevens shot in the 75th minute which he volleyed over the bar.
After the match, Bodmin boss Gilbert said: "It has been a brilliant season. All credit to this set of players, they are different class."
It was also revealed afterwards that goalkeeper Kevin Miller, 44, has agreed to play on for one more season.
