CORNISH Pirates rugby players and a Miss England finalist got their skates on to launch a new roller-skating rink in Par.
The purpose-built facility at Kidzworld in Cornish Market World will be there for the next five months as a trial, with a view to be made permanent and expanded if it is successful.
It was the brainchild of site director Andrew Robertson, who called roller-skating the "fastest growing indoor family sport in the country."
He has first commissioned a survey which found young people in the area were keen for the idea.
Site marketing manager Chris Robillard said the trial cost about £25,000 in total for the five months.
As well as Miss England finalist Amy Crosby, who was also Miss Torquay, Cornish Pirates players Gary Johnson, Chris Morgan and Junior Fatialofa also gave roller-skating a whirl at the launch on Saturday, May 25.
Thanking them for giving up their time, Mr Robillard added: "It was great to have them along and they all had a go. Junior was a bit apprehensive at first but he soon bigged up when the other Pirates got their skates on."
Mr Morgan said they were pleased to support a new facility for young people and would be back to improve their skating skills.
The rink is open every day this week. Sessions cost £3 per person and there will be a roller disco every Saturday night.
