THE RECENT arson attacks on a derelict indoor go-kart track near Camborne have prompted a multi-agency initiative to take action to stop them.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, police and environment health, all part of Safer Camborne scheme, set up to improve community safety and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the town, met earlier this week to discuss the recent suspicious fires at the building.
Last week eleven firefighters were called to the warehouse to deal with two small rubbish fires.
Sarah Necke, Cornwall Council's community safety officer, said the recent fires have highlighted a problem.
She explained: "People have been dumping rubble, mattresses and old sofas there because the frontage of the building is not secured.
"We have worked with the owners, who are based abroad, to secure the frontage in the past and we hope to work with them again to resolve the situation.
"Because of the recent fires we want to make sure the site is safe.
"We want to reduce any possibility of fire as there have been quite a few in the last few weeks and they have highlighted a problem."
Ms Necke confirmed there have been about six fire calls to the building since April.
