The fiancé of a Lostwithiel man who died suddenly from meningitis last year is set to skydive from 10,000 feet in his memory.
Kerran Parish was just weeks away from marrying Shane White, when he was a struck by the killer disease.
After falling ill, Mr White, 38, was rushed to hospital but died just eight hours later on March 31.
Since that time the family and friends of Mr White have been going above and beyond the call of duty to raise money for the Meningitis Trust, but, this will be the first time they've actually gone above the clouds themselves.
On Saturday, June 22, Ms Parish along with, Colin Pocock, Colin Benham, Joanne Harris and Luke Harris will step out of a perfectly good aeroplane above Perranporth and freefall from 10,000 feet in an effort to remember Shane and raise more money for the Trust.
Ms Parish, who has a deep fear of heights, said: "This is definitely a one off. Shane had always planned to do a skydive for his 40th birthday, so we decided it would be the most fitting way to raise money for the Meningitis Trust and to remember Shane in what would have been his 40th year.
"Together we hope to raise as much money as possible."
Ms Parish added that, since the death of her fiancé, the Meningitis Trust have been her lifeline, providing huge support in hard times and now she wants to help them continue the vital work they do in supporting all those affected by the disease.
Leah Wynn, the Meningitis Trust's community fundraiser for the South West, is full of praise for the team's efforts.
"We're extremely grateful to the team for taking on this exciting challenge," she said, "As a charity, which receives no public funding, we're entirely reliant on the energy, enthusiasm and initiative of our supporters to raise over £10,000 – the amount we need each and every day to support those battling their way back after meningitis."
The five-strong skydiving team are seeking further sponsorship for their daring jump.
