Plymouth Devils have moved to strengthen their squad by signing talented Danish youngster Mikkel Bech Jensen as a replacement for Ricky Kling. Jensen, who is popularly known as Mikkel B to avoid confusion with another Danish rider, will be 19 at the end of August. He made a couple of Elite League appearances for Swindon at the end of the 2011 season and was a member of the Danish team that won the 2012 World Team Cup along with Nicki Pedersen, Niels Kristian Iversen and Michael Jepsen Jensen. Announcing the new signing, Plymouth co-promoter Ashley Taylor said: "Signing Mikkel will be a massive boost for us and underlines our serious intention to produce a winning team. "He has ridden with and against some of the top riders and has opted to join us despite attracting attention from some Elite League teams. "At this stage, however, Mikkel does not want to go full-time into the Elite League and is aiming to cut his teeth in British speedway by racing in the Premier League." Plymouth had been planning to make changes after suffering some disappointing results at the start of the season. It was fairly obvious that there were major questions over the form of Kling, after the 25-year-old Swede failed to find his best form, scoring only 40 points in ten matches for the Devils. He took the issue into his own hands, however, after failing to score in last Saturday's match at Leicester, when he opted to take a break because of concern at his performances. Plymouth will re-declare their team with Mikkel B Jensen coming in on an assessed seven-point average and he will become a full Plymouth asset once the necessary formalities are completed. He scored five Elite League points in his two meetings for Swindon, riding his first in the same Swindon team as Devils skipper Cory Gathercole while Ty Proctor made a guest appearance for the Robins in Mikkel's second appearance. Coincidentally, he is a teammate of Kling, riding for Elit Vetlanda in the Swedish Elite League. Another change to the Plymouth line-up will see Todd Kurtz promoted from reserve to a place in the one to five at the expense of Chris Shramm, who drops to reserve because of the new averages which come into force as from June 1. The new Plymouth averages are: Ty Proctor 9.22, Mikkel B Jensen 7.00, Mark Lemon 6.97, Cory Gathercole 6.43, Todd Kurtz 4.67. Reserves: Chris Schramm 3.94, Jake Anderson 3.00. Plymouth have brought forward their Premier League match at home to Ipswich from mid-July to fill a vacant date at the St Boniface Arena on Friday June 14. They have also re-arranged the rained-off home fixture against Scunthorpe, which will now take place on Friday August 23. The home match against Sheffield, due to have taken place that evening, has been put back seven days to August 30. Meanwhile, Plymouth's away match against Sheffield has been brought forward to Thursday June 13.
