A NEWQUAY fish and chip shop has proved it is 'batter' than most by bagging a top industry award – the first holiday park-based restaurant in the UK to do so.
The Hendra Fish and Chip Shop has joined the fish-frying elite by scooping a Quality Award from The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).
The trade body runs the scheme as a way of raising standards within the trade and boosting the profile of the industry.
It is a way of rewarding and promoting shops that provide good quality products and high standards of hygiene, as well as friers who show a high level of competence.
Hendra's General Manager Matt Way said: "We are, of course, delighted to receive the award, a fantastic accolade and just reward for the efforts the Hendra team have made in offering a top quality catering experience to our holiday park guests, and to our local residents who are welcome on site to use the fish and chip shop too."
To qualify, each shop has to go through an inspection by an NFFF approved assessor who assesses the shop's presentation, hygiene and cleanliness, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills and, most importantly, the quality of the cooked product.
A spokesman said: "This award sets the new benchmark for quality within the industry. It will signal to the consumer that they can buy with confidence where the award is displayed, and it will encourage more outlets to raise their standards."
Each Fish and Chip Quality Award is valid for two years and retention depends on standards being maintained as validated by NFFF officials and appointed assessors.
