Police are appalled at the "despicable" attack that turned a community youth sports club upside down. Vandals slammed chairs into the ceiling at the Chiverton Park facilities used by St Agnes youth football teams. The attackers caused approximately £300 worth of damage - exactly the same amount of money given to the club in the Cornwall Community Cashback awards in February where money recovered by the police from criminals is donated to community groups. The club was astonished by the scale of the damage, with flag poles thrust into walls in the portable building at Chiverton Park. Mandy Kimmins, club chairman, said: "I am absolutely devastated that anyone could have so little respect for the hard work and effort that goes into creating facilities for adults and children to play sport. "As a club, St Agnes AFC will field 13 competitive teams next season, many of those youngsters who will use the changing room at our Chiverton Park venue. I cannot comprehend why anyone would cause such destruction."
The Cornwall Community Cashback awards were presented by Inspector Mark Richards, of Truro police, who was appalled by the vandalism at the club. He said: "This is a youth team that has been recognised for the good work it does in the community, it's exceptionally disappointing that they should suffer an attack like this. "I find it absolutely despicable that people should have such little regard for a community asset." Members were rallying around at the weekendJune1-2 to help repair facilities in preparation for next season. The attack took place at some point between midday on Wednesday and 3pm Thursday. Anyone who would like to support St Agnes AFC in anyway or anyone with any information regarding the damage caused is asked to contact Mrs Kimmins on 07974 370666. Anybody with any information about the attack is asked to contact the police on 101.
