LIGHTNING has reportedly been striking TV aerials in Helston, sparking a spate of calls to the fire service.
Crews were called to Hellis Wartha at around 7.10am after residents in three properties smelled burning.
A fire service spokeswoman said: "Crews are investigating and believe it to be lightning on the TV aerials."
Fire-fighters also dealt with a small electrical fire at Trenear, Helston, around an hour later. They strapped on breathing apparatus and used carbon dioxide extinguishers to distinguish the flames. Western Power was informed of the incident.
The fire service had a busy morning across south and west Cornwall as crews helped deal with a host of problems caused by thunderstorms and flash floods.
The spokeswoman said: "From 7am we began to receive weather related incidents. Falmouth crews attended Truro Hill in Penryn and used small gear to assist with flooding. We also mobilised to automatic fire alarms in the Falmouth area and St Mawes crews were mobilised to St Just in Roseland to assist with general flooding."
She said the volume of calls was now reducing.
