3pm: AS MANY as 5,000 homes in the Falmouth, Redruth and Penryn area were left without power following a lightning storm earlier today.
Energy provider Western Power Distribution has said the majority have now been reconnected.
Earlier: THUNDERSTORMS and flash flooding is causing chaos in parts of the Duchy – but sunshine is promised later today.
Hundreds of homes in the Penryn and Redruth areas are without power and motorists are being held up by standing water on roads.
Lightning has reportedly struck close to Falmouth docks, although bosses have said the site continues to run smoothly.
Rail links were suspended between Truro and Falmouth because of heavy storms, but a revised service is now being run.
A fallen tree on the A394 at Helston is also causing traffic problems.
