From a paramedic and university professor to restaurateur Jill Stein, former wife of celebrity chef Rick, 15 people from Cornwall have been recognised in the Queen's birthday honours list, it was announced last night. Mrs Stein, who set up the renowned Seafood Restaurant in Padstow 38 years ago with Rick, said it was a "great honour" to receive an OBE for services to the restaurant industry. She was one of a number of people from all walks of life in the Duchy to be decorated with honours, ranging from MBEs to the recently restored British Empire Medal, joining many more from across the Westcountry. Included in the honours list too was Allan Cottle, from Mylor Bridge, near Falmouth, who was handed an MBE for voluntary service to Royal Navy Search and Rescue training, and Professor John Peter Scott from Lostwithiel, the pro-vice chancellor for research at the University of Plymouth, who was given a CBE for services to social science. Mrs Stein, who lives in Padstow and is also a successful interior designer, said: "We have been here for 38 years and Rick is the face of course, but I think people presumably will have mentioned me for it and realised there's two of us," she said. "I just think it is a great honour, great that it has happened. "I didn't think it would happen in a million years; you don't because you are so focused on what you are doing at the time. "Rick and I set up all those years ago and it's very nice to have some recognition for my lifetime's work." Mr Cottle, 59, an ambulance paramedic and the first qualified member of SAR crew, has flown countless sorties, saving numerous lives, including the dramatic rescue from the almost-capsized cargo ship Hornicliff in mountainous seas off the Duchy in 2008. The medic, who has spent 15 years devising and developing medical training, said he was "humbled" to have been nominated by members of 771 squadron, which flies Sea King helicopters out of RNAS Culdrose. He is solely responsible for a training programme which provides 12 specially selected staff for SAR, the only one of its kind in the country. "These guys are the real heroes, they get out there all the time and put their lives on the line," he added. "The MBE is mind-blowing – I am not one for blowing my own trumpet and I feel a little embarrassed – but it is a real honour receiving it from those guys." World-renowned sociologist Professor John Scott has authored more than 30 books and collections, served on national research assessment panels and curriculum bodies and taught in China, Japan, Western Europe, and Australia. He said: "I am deeply honoured to be awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire – it was completely unexpected. "It is marvellous recognition of the work done by the associations that I have been involved with, and of Plymouth and the other universities that have supported this work." MBE for Adele and it's arise Sir Baldrick... Skyfall singer Adele has added another award to her fast-growing collection as she receives an MBE in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours. The 25-year-old, who found worldwide fame after a friend posted her demo on MySpace in 2006, already has a bulging trophy cabinet, from Brit Awards to Grammys, and most recently an Oscar for her James Bond song. The singer, whose full name is Adele Adkins, became a mother in October, and today tops off an eventful year with an MBE for services to music. Tony Robinson, famed for his role as long-suffering Baldrick in the Blackadder series, trumps co-star Rowan Atkinson with a knighthood for public and political service. Atkinson, who starred in last year's Olympics opening ceremony, gets a CBE for services to drama and charity. MBEs go to singer and broadcaster Aled Jones and West Dorset-based singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, as well as comedian Rob Brydon; actor, director and playwright David Haig; and Chocolat author Joanne Harris. Sports presenter Clare Balding, widely praised for her coverage of London's Olympic and Paralympic Games, gets an OBE for services to broadcasting and journalism. Golfer Paul Lawrie also receives the award. OBEs go to GQ editor Dylan Jones, Labyrinth author Kate Mosse, and Christian Horner, principal of the Red Bull Formula 1 team. The OBE is also given to Wendy Parry, whose 12-year-old son Tim was killed alongside three-year-old Johnathan Ball in the Warrington bombing on March 20, 1993. A further 56 people were injured by two bombs put in litter bins the day before Mothering Sunday. No warning was given and nobody has ever been prosecuted for the outrage. Mrs Parry, who set up the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, with husband Colin, is awarded the OBE in the year that marks the 20th anniversary of the attack. A Companion of Honour goes to Sir Nicholas Serota, director of the Tate, while a knighthood is given to sculptor Anish Kapoor, who designed the 115m (377ft) ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture and observation tower in the Olympic Park in east London. Entrepreneur and former Dragon's Den star Hilary Devey gets a CBE for services to the transport industry and to charity, with a CBE also going to actress Claire Bloom.
