Both of Falmouth's RNLI lifeboats were called out to separate incidents on the morning of Friday June 14th to assist boats with mechanical problems.

The first incident occurred at 10.54am and required the inshore lifeboat to rescue four adults and a child who were stranded in a boat between Greeb Point and Portscatho.

The crew, helmsman Andy Jenkin with Adam West and Darren Plaister, found the 15ft open boat anchored in the water. The propellers of the boat were not turning despite the engine of the vessel running sufficiently.

Helmsman Andy Jenkin said: "The boat was anchored not far from the quay and the people onboard were well prepared. It was unfortunate that although there was a backup boat it couldn't assist because of the conditions."

The inshore lifeboat towed the rescued boat into Portscatho and all parties were returned to shore unharmed.

Less than 30 minutes after the inshore lifeboat was launched, the all-weather lifeboat was called to assist a boat near the East Narrows buoy.

The 21 foot boat had broken down and was in danger of drifting ashore.

However, before the Falmouth lifeboat could reach the stranded crew, the St Mawes Harbour Master's boat had already towed them safely to shore.

The all-weather lifeboat was therefore not required and returned to its berth in Falmouth.
