Cornwall's men achieved another comprehensive Middleton Cup victory in gusty conditions at North Petherton on Saturday when they beat Somerset by 53 shots, taking 20 of the 22 points available, writes Grenville Phillips.
Team manager Mike Tout made changes in the team which beat Hereford the previous week, bringing in Ben Cotton to replace Andrew Barron in Ian Drew's rink, with Mark Eddy and Peter Brooks replacing Charlie Gay and Nigel Laity in Steve Lawer's rink.
The Duchy were never behind in the match and, after 10 ends had doubled Somerset's score. John Stafford and his men overwhelmed the opposition, who did not score a shot until the 12th end.
Apart from Steve Lawer's four the others made steady progress, with England international Mark Read pulling off some good shots to keep his rink in contention.
Lawer's four, playing on the rink most affected by the wind, struggled against England international Ridout, finally losing by eight.
Cornwall play the final game of the Group stage against Dorset at St Austell on Saturday.
