UPDATE, 2pm: FLIGHT displays scheduled for Armed Forces Day today in Falmouth have been cancelled due to the weather.
The Jet Provost T5 Display over the inner harbour at 12pm did not take place and organisers of the event say the Avro Anson Display at 2pm and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 4pm will not go ahead either due to a low cloud base. EARLIER: FALMOUTH is a hive of excitement preparing for Armed Forces Day today despite the drizzly start.
The event will pay tribute to our service personnel and is set to be the biggest Armed Foces Day in Cornwall so far.
An opening ceremony will take place at 11.30am in Events Square, after veterans, led by the Culdrose Band, parade from Church Street Car Park at 11am.
Some of the veterans who are in their 90s will be presented with Arctic Star, Bomber Command Clasp and Veterans Badge awards by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, as part of the opening ceremony.
Bob Sturland, deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and the chairman of Armed Forces Day Cornwall 2013 organising group, said: "Our aim has been to make this a family-friendly and fun day to celebrate our Armed Forces past, present and future."
The weather is forecast to be most cloudy but humid, with possible showers from about 3pm.
Pictures and videos of the event will be available on this website later today.
