A DRIVER had a miraculous escape after his car destroyed 100ft of crash barrier after it spun off the A30 and narrowly missed a 40ft drop.
The blue Mazda RX-8 was traveling eastbound along the A30 carriageway in Lifton, on the border of Devon and Cornwall, yesterday.
It spun off the road sideways and slid into the Armco barrier, mounted it, and drifted along it for 100ft, causing extensive damage.
The car, driven by a 51-year-old male from Richmond in Surrey, came to a stop narrowly missing a 40ft drop.
The driver was out of the car when police, fire crews and an ambulance arrived at the scene on the Devon side of Lifton at about 1.45pm.
Although police say his car was completely destroyed, the driver suffered no injuries.
"It was very very fortunate the driver wasn't seriously injured in the accident," said a police spokesperson. "He had an incredibly lucky escape."
