A FOOTBALL tournament in Penzance today has raised nearly £750 for a little girl with cancer.
The six-a-side game, which started at noon, is still currently going on at Astro Park despite the damp weather according to organiser Gary Williams.
It is part of efforts to raise money for Jessica Pawlyn, aged eight, who is battling cancer for a third time.
The Penzance community has rallied round to drum up funds to pay for an iPad for Jessica and a holiday for her family.
She used to live in the town but now lives in Porthleven.
As well as the action on the pitch there has been a bouncy castle, food and refreshments throughout the day.
"It's brilliant, the players are having a lot of fun and it's been a great turnout," said Mr Williams, whose family friend was in hospital with Jessica.
"People have really pulled together and helped out. The weather hasn't deterred anyone – they've just cracked on with it.
"We've also got a little plaque for Jessica but unfortunately she is unwell and couldn't be here today."
