West Cornwall's Harry Hall retained his title as Cornish Junior Champion golfer at St Austell GC yesterday.
The 15-year-old, who the previous day had failed to make the cut in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters at St Nizels, Kent, travelled back overnight to play in the Junior County Championship along with 53 other juniors at a windy but dry St Austell course presented in very good condition.
The 36 hole event saw Hall follow up a morning 74 with a 72 for a total of 146 to win by six shots from Tom Valentine (Carlyon Bay 77+75=152).
Third was CGU Junior Captain Adam Curtis (Bude 75+78=153) and fourth went to his club mate Connor Jenkins (78+76=154). The competition has categories for both
U16 and U18 players and Hall's score was enough to win both gross prizes.
The U16 gross category saw House second with clubmate Jake Finn third
(76+79=155) and Mullion's Connor Davidson fourth (78+82=160) House also took the U18 nett prize with a total of 139 from Liam Miller (Porthpean 140), Finn (145) and James Trew (Killiow 147).
The U16 nett prize went to Truro's 12-year-old Joe Reynard whose reputation is growing fast.
He improved on his morning round of 91 by 11 shots to record a nett 61 in round 2 which gave him a nett total of 133 and a five shot margin over his nearest rival.
Second, third and fourth places went to host club St Austell members. Ricardo Sanchez, a year younger than Reynard, put together a nett total of 138 for second place, whilst Cameron Warne(145) and Zak Omlo (146) were third and fourth respectively.
The team to represent Cornwall in the South Western Counties Boys Amateur Championship taking place at Weston-super-Mare on 10th July has also been selected. The team is Harry Hall, Adam Curtis (Capt), Niall Hutton (St Mellion), Sam Church (China Fleet), Tom Valentine, Connor Jenkins (Bude), Jake Finn and Ryan House.
