FEW TOWNS this size have more to boast about than St Ives when it comes to architecture.
This weekend a special Love Architecture St Ives 2013 event is being organised by award winning local architects in collaboration with St Ives Town Council, Porthminster Beach and the St Ives Tourism Authority among others.
The afternoon of free events on Saturday, including a free-to-enter sandcastle building competition, will celebrate the unique character of St Ives and the town's century old sandcastle building tradition. From 12-4pm Porthminster Beach will host a wide variety of activities including:• The public sandcastle building competition with 'goody bags' for all entrants and prizes including family meals at St Ives local restaurants.• The Architect's Build competition for architects from across the Duchy to showcase their creativity and skill • And at Tate St Ives a model making workshop inspired by St Ives' buildings
The St Ives Town Council Love Marquee will also be open from 11.30am, as part of a more serious consultation on planning issues.
: Planning for Real public consultation (from 11.30am)
There will also be kitemaking and storytelling sessions during the afternoon.
Rachael Gaunt, director of PBWC Architects, said: "We are delighted that St Ives has been selected to host this prestigious annual event. St Ives is an inspiring place to live and work. We look forward to welcoming local businesses, schoolchildren and visitors to Porthminster Beach on Saturday to build some great sandcastles!"
