A new chairman has been appointed at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust just days after the shock departure of Martin Watts who held the post for four years. The NHS Trust Development Authority (TDA) today confirmed Mike Higgins as RCHT's interim chairman. Having been its deputy chairman since 2011, Mr Higgins said he would do all he could to stabilise the organisation, adding: "These are challenging times for the trust and the NHS as a whole, and I will do all I can to offer stability and focus to ensure we continue to provide the very best care for our patients. In a statement the trust described Mr Higgins as an experienced "international business executive" who has worked with organisations such as Adobe, EDS, and Texas Instruments. Mr Watts, who is considering legal action to clear his name, resigned after being told his position was no longer tenable. He left the organisation after two complaints against him were upheld by the TDA and Strategic Health Authority.
