The chairman of luxury car company Aston Martin has invested £2 million in to refurbishing a prestigious hotel which re-opened on Monday. The Idle Rocks Hotel in St Mawes has been closed for nine months while a total overhaul took place to give it a "modern yet homely feel" before reopening on its 100th birthday. The hotel has been bought by David Richards who heads up car manufacturer Aston Martin. Along with his wife, Karen, the couple gutted and completely re-finished the hotel. In an interview Mr Roberts said: "We liked the hotel and decided to buy it.

"50 or 60 years ago this was the place to be in Cornwall and that's our intention to get it back on the map again." The couple took over the ownership of the hotel from the Richardson Group last year. "The first thing that strikes you is the view, we've opened the foyer right up" explains general manager Josie Simcox. "The front entrance is all glass so you can see right through the building. It's much more welcoming. "Over the nine months we completely gutted the hotel and have turned it in to something more incredible. "We've given the external of the building a facelift too, it's now very bright. It's the hotel's centenary and the perfect time to be refurbished." All of the hotel's 20 bedrooms have been redecorated but kept with a "distinctive homely feel". The hotel overlooks the harbour with "stunning" views across the river Fal to Falmouth. The hotel boasts a brand new, state-of-the-art kitchen serving up the freshest sea-food and locally sourced produce. As well as a revamped modern hotel, the owners have pledged to help provide learning opportunities within the hospitality industry in a bid to give something back to the local community. "We want to embrace the community in everything we do" said Josie, "we want to find local talented people who are interested in learning new skills in the trade."
