A Liskeard man was pulled from his burning home by his neighbour this afternoon.
At around 2pm a concerned neighbour, who saw smoke coming from the property in Fore Street, entered the building and dragged the man to safety.
The casualty was treated by paramedics at the scene and rushed to hospital via air ambulance.
Fire fighters were called at around 2pm after water was seen coming through the ceiling of a shop in the high street, after the flat's automated sprinkler was activated.
On their arrival they used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the fire.
A representative from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "An investigation on scene by firefighters established the cause of the fire as having come from smoking materials igniting the sofa involved."
