UPDATED: FIREFIGHTERS have declared Lidl in Penryn safe after evacuating the store earlier this afternoon. A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 2.24pm the FRS were called to an automatic fire alarm that had actuated at a Retail Unit. "Two fire appliances from Falmouth fire station and one fire appliance from Truro fire station attended the incident. "Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus used a positive pressure fan to ventilate the premises." Earlier firefighters and police evacuated the Lidl store. Eye witnesses reported a number of fire service and police vehicles closing off the car park off Falmouth Road just before 3pm. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said they were responding to a call about hazardous materials at the site. Ray Dawe, Falmouth station manager, said: "There has been a refrigerator gas leak. For the protection of the staff and members of the public we have evacuated the store until the arrival of specialist engineers." This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
