Mounts Bay Harriers held their second Jubilee Pool aquathlon event of the summer series which attracted an excellent field of 94 competitors. The event comprised a 200 metre swim around the edge of the Jubilee Pool, followed by a two-mile run to Tolcarne along Penzance Promenade and back to the pool. Newquay's Michael Birchmore was the overall winner, crossing the line in 12.49 with 16-year-old Jacob Wood of Mounts Bay Harriers coming in second in 13.53, closely followed by Falmouth's Kieran Townsend (18, Gyllyngvase) in 14.03. For the females, 13-year-old Ellie Ringwood (Mounts Bay Harriers) had a superb race, finishing first lady in 15.36, with GB paralympic international Melissa Reid finishing second in 15.52. Shannon O'Connell was third. The event was once again well supported by both Mounts Bay Harriers and Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club. The third Jubilee Pool Aquathlon will take place on Wednesday, 31 July 31 (7pm). For full report, results and more pictures see this week's Cornishman.
