Les Gilbert has admitted his decision to leave Falmouth Town was a difficult one to make, but one that was in the best interests of the club.
Gilbert stepped down last Wednesday and after informing the club he was unable to give more of his time to football due to work commitments, though joint manager Robbie Stephens will remain at the club.
Gilbert and Stephens took over at Falmouth last season following Alan Carey's resignation in October.
They were unable to turn Town's fortunes around as a number of key players left during the course of the season, including skipper Mark Vercesi and striker Matt Drummond. Falmouth went on to finish fourth from bottom in the premier division table.
Gilbert said: "With so much work to do away from football I was finding it really difficult to fit everything in.
"In the end I thought it was only fair on the club and Rob that I stood down. I feel really guilty about leaving but I don't think I had any other option."
Falmouth will be appointing a joint manager to work alongside Stephens, with Town defender Steve Floyd-Norris in the frame.
