WOMEN who took part in this year's Race for Life in Penzance are being encouraged to return their sponsorship money after nationally a third failed to do so last year.
In total, 996 participants entered the event at Wharfside Car Park on May 30 this year raising thousands for organisers Cancer Research UK.
But organiser Sam Beare said only returning all the sponsorship forms will help the charity reach its £68,000 target for the town
She said: "Race for Life in Penzance was a fantastic event.
"Many people don't realise that their entry fee only covers the cost of the event. It's the sponsorship money that really makes a difference.
"Last year, a third of women who took part didn't return any sponsorship money. Without this money, Race for Life can't fund all the vital research that's needed to help save more lives. As the number of people diagnosed with cancer in the South West continues to rise, and the economy tightens, we need the support of local people now more than ever."
