There was a step back to a quieter pace of life at the weekend when the tractor was put to one side and the old fashioned skill of ploughing with horses was celebrated.
The annual Cornish Horse Ploughing Championships were held at Trewidden Farm overlooking Mounts Bay in Penzance on Saturday. One of the organisers, Robert Eddy, said they had a good turnout and managed to avoid the downpours which had been forecast.
"We picked a good window for the weather and the ground was beautiful.
"The people who took part said it was the best ploughing they had done all year."
Mr Eddy said that competitors came from all over Devon and Cornwall to take part in the contest.
But he added that there were fewer spectators than usual – probably because the event had only been advertised for one week as organisers did not want to risk confusion with another ploughing match.
Mr Eddy said that everyone had enjoyed the event.
"It was a very good day. There were fewer people than before but everyone who came appreciated what was on display."
