The pitter-patter of tiny feet was once again heard at Hayle's Paradise Park. For the second year in a row the park's red panda, Jai-Li, has had twin cubs. Just weeks after the two cubs born last year were shipped off to other breeding groups across Europe, the newborns arrived. Red panda keeper, Donna Sinclair, said: "We are thrilled to have another set of twins this summer. These new cubs will spend the first 2-3 months inside the den, so we have install a CCTV camera which is viewable on our website, plus we have a large screen outside their enclosure so visitors can see what is happening." Staff say the new additions are doing well with mother Jai-Li at their side. Donna added: "Jai-Li is very attentive, she stays with the cubs most of the time just going outside for half an hour or so to feed on bamboo and fruit. That's a good time to see the cubs wriggling around together. They do spend a lot of time sleeping in the den with mum's tail wrapped around the twins – very cute." The park says recent data shows the red panda population could be as low as 2,500 making them an endangered species.
