Retired journalist Chris Young is to run a half marathon in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Former BBC reporter Chris, 67, from Truro, is undertaking the Great North Run in memory of his brother - who died at the age of 17 from cystic fibrosis.

Chris is no stranger to running and fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – in the past he has run the London Marathon and the New York Marathon. Chris said: "I do run regularly and take part in half marathons every 2 years.  I am grateful that I can still run as many are not so fortunate."

"My brother Tim was born in 1950 and my mother had to take him from doctor to doctor before he was finally diagnosed with 'fibrocystic disease of the pancreas.' We believe that he may be one of the earliest patients to be diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in the UK. He was given a life expectancy of 9 to 10 years' old and surprised doctors by surviving until he was 17. I can still remember my mother doing his physiotherapy and he had to take enzyme granules before eating any food."

The Great North Run starts in Newcastle on September 7 and is covered live on BBC television.
