A cyclist believed to have been taking part in the Roseland Triathlon has been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on the race route.
The male casualty collided with a van on Polvarth Road in St Mawes at 11.15am.
Police said he suffered breaks to both arms and both legs as well as a suspected fractured pelvis and was taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital.
The road remained closed until 1.30pm while investigations continued.
A police spokesman said: "This was a serious accident with the casualty airlifted to hospital. The road was closed for some time and it is understood this caused a delay to the Roseland Triathlon."
The popular triathlon this year involved both a standard and a sprint distance event, with 250 entrants.
Roseland Triathlon's website said the swim was in the open sea within Portscatho bay, whilst "The bike is on public roads and the roads are not expected to be closed." It said the running part of the race takes place on a mixture of quiet road and coastal path.
None of the organisers could be reached for comment.
