The Cornwall Camper Company was officially opened on December 1, 2012 by Lady Mary Holborow at the launch event in the Eden Project Café in St Austell.
People were invited to get in the driving seat, and the back seat, to explore the first campervans of the fleet and learn more about this truly Cornish company. The event was accompanied by local band, Steel Appeal and an exclusively made cake in the shape of Lilly the VW Camper by Penryn based, Dave's All Occasion Cakes.
The new venture is the brain-child of Ben Ford and Jess Ratty who have decided to give tourists another top reason to visit the county and travel in style in one of their vintage restored campers.
The Cornwall Camper Company offers exclusive packages around the hire of the vans which vary from adventure weeks, wine and ale tours and even bespoke yoga breaks giving a new twist to the original concept of VW Campervan hire.
The packages also include food hampers crammed with goods from all over the Duchy–working closely with local suppliers to reduce food miles and promote Cornish produce.
The vans themselves have been extensively rebuilt with a strong emphasis on renovation using recycled parts from other VW's where possible to uphold the environmental and sustainable aims of the company.
Lady Mary said: " I am delighted to support such a very innovative and exciting new business which will be an extra bonus to the tourism industry in Cornwall."
Jess Ratty, co-owner of The Cornwall Camper Company, said: "This is such an exciting time for us, we have worked tirelessly for two years to renovate our first two vans Lilly and Jessie and we are looking forward to our first full year of VW Camper hire in Cornwall.
"It was a tough decision to start a business in the middle of a recession but with Cornish spirit, determination and the support of some incredible people across Cornwall, we are finally raring to go.
Ben Ford, co-owner continued: "We love Cornwall and we are inspired to work hard with as many local businesses as possible to provide fantastic holidays that create memories for a lifetime."
The company has a strong customer service ethos and will be providing everything they can for their customers - be it specifically tailored holidays, bespoke wedding and event requests – and even helping with wedding proposals!
