HAYLE youngsters are celebrating their success in a national design technology competition.
Two teams of students from Hayle Community School worked on their entries for the We Made It competition during the summer term.
Charlie Martin and Millie Jenkins came up with a phone case that holds both a smart phone and wireless ear plugs and their entry has won the constituency heat.
The pair will attend an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in January and their entry has now been put forward to the national final, with the winning design being produced by Fab Lab in Manchester.
Jacob Nicholas, Connor and Thomas Pascoe designed a smart ball – a football with internal sensors to measure impact, speed and elevation for training purposes. Their product was highly commended by the judges, who included MP George Eustice. The competition was organised by the Dods UK Manufacturing Dialogue, a group of organisations who have come together with MPs to look at ways of getting young people interested in the manufacturing industry.
Head of design technology, Mrs Treloar, said: "I was very impressed with the innovative ideas."
Millie added: "Wow, I never thought we would win. It will be great to go to London."
