Two firefighters from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service have been selected for the UK team for next year's World Trauma Challenge in Florida.
Crew Manager Stephen Miles from St Mawes Community Fire Station and Firefighter Chris Williams from Mullion Community Fire Station have been asked to take part following a strong showing at both the national UK Rescue Organisation Trauma Challenge and World Rescue Organisation Challenge where they were placed 6th and 10th respectively.
"The competition is a very intense experience – teams are presented with a realistic scenario and given nine minutes to assess and treat the casualty, with a further minute to give a handover to the medical team," Stephen Miles explained.
"To be ranked sixth in the UK and 10th in the world is quite an achievement. At the world event we are competing against emergency medical technicians and paramedics who deal with a broader range of incidents, so we are really pleased to have gained a place at next year's World Trauma Challenge," Chris Williams said.
The two firefighters are now looking for corporate sponsors to help them with the travelling costs related to the event.
Anyone wanting to sponsor Stephen and Chris can contact either Station Manager Richard Gibbons at Bodmin Fire Station or Crew Manager Rob Martin at Camborne Fire Station .
