The opening event of the Cornish Cup Cycling Timetrials for 2013 season took place at the weekend, hosted by Penzance Wheelers (PZW), over a two lap 20-mile sporting course at Laddock Valley near Truro.
With a large field of riders, all of the top clubs were well represented, including many of the county's big hitters, opening up their season's campaigns, and going head to head for the first time this year.
Despite gusty, near freezing conditions, competition remained tight, with last year's champion Sandy Gourley (PZW) claiming maximum 100 points in a time of 50mins 14 secs.
Paul Friday (PZW) and Drummond Masterton (Cyclelogic) secured 99 and 98 points respectively.
In the ladies' race, first place went to Lisa Picton of Camel Valley Cycling in 59:03, followed closely by defending champion Kim Homewood (PZW) and Sandie Sly (One & All).
Notable performances were those of Michael Hooper and James Trott, both juniors but only just finishing outside the top 10 overall.
Full season race dates and details of upcoming events can be found on the Penzance Wheelers website http://www.pzwheelers.co.uk
