MORE than 100 people paraded through the streets of Hayle on Sunday to celebrate the town's volunteers and charity organisations.

Mayor Jayne Ninnes, Hayle Town Band and Hayle ATC Cadets led the civic parade, which started and finished at the day care centre.

The annual procession celebrates the people and organisations of Hayle and included pupils, Hayle Surf Lifesaving Club and mayors from other towns.

Mrs Ninnes said the day went perfectly: "It is a chance for us to say thank you to the volunteers and community groups that make the town special," she said.

There was also a church service at St Elwyn's, where, along with the usual hymns, everyone sang When I'm 64 by The Beatles to highlight the mayor's organisation of the year – Hayle Day Care Centre.

Mrs Ninnes added: "We wanted to make it fun for the kids to join in. Lots of people said it was the best civic service they have been to."

On returning to the day care centre, the paraders were treated to Mr B's ice cream.
