Bodmin Town 3 Camelford 0
Emergency striker Lee Doel scored twice as Bodmin moved closer to retaining the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League title with a 3-0 victory over Camelford at Priory Park on Friday evening.
Midfield man Doel, playing up front alongside Luke Hodge because regular strikers Adam Carter and Chris Luxton (injured) were unavailable, gave Bodmin the perfect start with a second minute goal and then produced a 25-yard stunner to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute.
Bodmin then had to wait until the 89th minute to seal victory, as Luke Doddridge delivered a perfect right wing cross for Steve Colwell to sweep the ball home at the near post.
In between the second and third goals, Camelford enjoyed plenty of possession and looked the more threatening side for much of the second half but their finishing was poor, with skipper Mark Gusterson twice sending shots wide from good positions.
The decision to move the premier division game forward from its original Saturday afternoon kick-off time drew a bigger than normal crowd to Priory Park on a perfect evening for football.
Bodmin now need a maximum of four points from their remaining five games to retain the title. Their next game is away to Ivybridge Town on Tuesday, April 23, before facing Liverton United on Saturday April 27.
Bodmin: Miller, Morgan, Rundle, Chambers, Simmonds, Brokenshire (Krac 29), Swiggs, Slateford, Hodge, Doel (Doddridge 69), Matthews (Colwell 65). Subs not used: Reed, Gilbert.
Camelford: Colwill, Sandercock, Rushton, Haynes, Insley, Murt (Balsdon 46), Pooley, Sleep, Flew (Moth 62; Frolick 66), Gusterson, Boxall.
