In a thrilling final, where the drama continued to the end, 15-year-old Emily Toy of Carlyon Bay became the youngest ever winner of the Cornwall Ladies' Golf Championship when she defeated six times finalist and past champion Rachael Lloyd-Phillips (Tehidy Park) one up in today's 36 hole final at Tehidy Park.
In the first ever Sunday final, the first 18 holes were played in cold and cloudy conditions.
Toy got off to a flying start and was two up after two, but Lloyd-Phillips came back and squared at the fifth.
The match continued with some high quality goal with both players exchanging holes and Toy was 1 up after 16 but Lloyd-Phillips won the last 2 to go one up at lunch.
Rain came in the afternoon, making conditions difficult for the players, but play remained at a very high standard and the drama continued.
Toy won the 21st & 24th and they were all square after 27 holes and remained so until the 35th when Toy went one up. Going up the 36th Toy was on the green for three and lloyd-Phillips safely on for two.
But in a dramatic conclusion, Lloyd-Phillips' birdie putt came up short and Toy holed her 20 foot putt to secure a par 4 and the Championship.
