The start of the world gig racing championships also marked the start of married life for a Cornish couple.
James and Liz Eddy, who live in Lelant, decided to formally tie the knot ahead of the gig racing with a low-key wedding at the register office on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly.
The pair had initially wanted to marry while they were on holiday in Thailand in March and went as far as to receive a blessing at a Buddhist temple in Bangkok.
However the technicalities of formalising the union in the Far East proved too much of a burden.
"We planned to do the legal bit when we were over there," said James, 38. "But it turned out to be particularly hard to do, so we thought let's just have a holiday instead."
The couple then turned their attention to planning how they could actually formalise their union, and hit on the idea of doing tying the knot legally on Scilly.
"We thought let's do it while we're on Scilly for the gig racing and it just seemed right. It's an awesome place and it was lovely," said James, who is an artist and sculptor.
After the ceremony, the couple were given a gig rowing guard of honour, consisting of oars raised above their heads.
