A woman from St Austell is thought to have taken her own life in the town.
Police confirmed that the 47-year-old was found dead in a car in St Austell at 9.15am yesterday.
Police were called to a vehicle in the Hornick Hill area of the town after being notified of a car being parked in an unexpected location. A spokesman said: "There was a question over the vehicle. It was in a place where a vehicle would not usually be."
Concerns had been raised about the welfare of the local woman. She was not identified.
The spokesman added: "It would appear to be an incident of self harm."
He could not confirm the exact cause of death but the force said there were "not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time".
Police investigations are ongoing and a post mortem was due to be conducted tomorrow.
